Deep Drawing / Thermoforming of Plastics
Because here we work with a vacuum. Deep drawing / thermoforming or vacuum forming is a process for moulding thermoplastics. A semi-finished plastic product is fixed at the edges and heated to softening temperature with the help of heating elements. A moulding tool is then moved against the sheet and a vacuum is created between the two using air ducts in the tool.
The higher atmospheric pressure causes the soft plastic to adhere to the mould wall. As the moulded part cools down, the material returns to its solid state.
